Evaluating The Years Work

Evaluating The Years Work

3D: In 3D we did 2 different main projects, the first one was “Clay-work” we had to base a clay pot around parts of a insects anatomy and then make a good design and make the pot. The second was “Wirework” this was using wire to create a face and have main features such as eyes, nose , mouth, and ears. Then we have moved onto Unit 6 and are still in the progress of it.

ICT: In ICT we created blogs at the start of the year and every week on a Monday we have to write about the week before and what we did on that week. When we weren’t working on our blogs we were either using photo shop or using different programs on the computer to help with the other parts of the course. We also took pictures of letters then made our own alphabet using Microsoft Photo shop and Microsoft Excel.

Photography: In Photography we mainly went and took pictures of a certain specific and then edited them on photo shop. We have done 2 main projects in photography, The first being “Book Covers” we went and took pictures too resemble 2 different books “High Rise” & “Concrete Island” we then added the titles and all the information onto the books in our own way then we did it again but for another book by the same author but we had to keep the book covers similar. The second was “Distinction Task” we had too go take pictures based around a artist and understanding the artists work and your own. Macro photography, in this we had broken boiler parts on a canvas and we took close up pictures of the pieces and then used Photo shop and flipped the photographs and made them have symmetry and add them onto each other creating ghost layers. Another part was we went and took pictures of the new college building and these pictures were the start of the distinction task too base our pictures on a certain artist with the picture we took we chose 3 and  then added them all together too make a slim and wide photographs with 3 of the same pictures.

Visual Arts: We have done a lot of projects for this part of the course but the main ones are: Home-made paper for a home-made sketchbook, Insects, Circus, Mono-printing, Mark-making. These works were all simple and we just got to dive into them especially with the mark making we just attacked paper with paints and other drawing materials. With the mono-printing task we had slabs off glass on the table with strong ink and with the ink we got rollers, rolled the ink on to the glass and then lay a piece of paper onto the glass and got either a pen or used our finger or used something with a point too it and we carved “gently” a shape or a picture into the paper with out making the picture then when we took the paper off the glass we had the picture on the paper with ink as well.

Photographing work for Photography + 16/05/11- 19/05/11

On monday last week we were working on our  distinction graphics or photography work and then in the afternoon we went and got all the work we have done with howard and cath and got it photographed. The lighting which was used was Bowens 500 and was aimed at the ceiling to get soft light so shadows were blurred. We used a grey background because the photo’s were to be about our work not somthing sistracting in their background. The camera we used was a Cannon 5dslr, with a shutter speed of 1/125 synced with the flash speed so we get a light picture, the aperature we used was F8-F16. The way too hold a camera is: (right-handed instructions) that with your right hand you hold the camera on the right with being able to change shutter speed and do options where as with your left hand you hold the front of the camera under the lens zoom so you can change the focus and zoom whilst having the camera steady. I think i got around 30-50 pictures and what i am going use my pictures for is i am going too use them for my portfolio.

Tuesday: We made paper-mashé mask’s and then finished/worked on our ” who i am” mind maps. And on thursday we also finished off our ” Who i am ” mindmaps and seen if our masks werent flimsy and if  they were we added more layers too them.

Graphics ( distinction task )

Graphics:
For my graphics task i am making my own cartoon character and i am showing it in different enviroments and how it moves and how it can move objects with telekanesis. The name of my character is : Mip  and he is a blob type creature who moves items and is in a quest to find a orb of some epic sort or somthing along them lines. I may make a story board from my character but at the moment i am just drawing out different places in his epic quest with no  words or letters just some (rubbish shading) and drawing 🙂

How to Display your Images

Today we learnt how to see stories in picture of  made either from 1,2 or 3 pictures .

Single pictures: Tells a story itself with a meaning of what the story is telling.

Diptych: 2 pictures together that compliment each other on the story and have a meaning.

Triptych: Tells a story with a start middle and ending and links the pictures together.

DIPLOMA ART AND DESIGN: PHOTOGRAPHY

PROPOSAL & Describing Research for Distinction Task.

1. The pictures I have got from the artist Gerhard Richter are  colourful and he uses bright colours for his pictures to make them look better. The pictures I am looking at are Landscape’s, the pictures are weird because its is pictures of a wood but it looks as-if one picture has been broken up into 16 sections and moved around to make 16 separate pictures. The picture is made up from a lot of lines and shapes all over making the trees and the water and the bushes. The emotion I get from this pictures is Confusion because I don’t understand why this picture was taken and why it was taken all I know is the picture makes no sense at-all but makes the viewer make their own reason why it was taken and what it means. Here is a quote from Gerhard Richter:

“Of course, my landscapes are not only beautiful or nostalgic, with a Romantic or classical suggestion of lost Paradises, but above all ‘untruthful’ (even if I did not always find a way of showing it); and by ‘untruthful’ I mean the glorifying way we look at nature – nature, which in all its forms is always against us, because it knows no meaning, no pity, no sympathy, because it knows nothing and is absolutely mindless: the total antithesis of ourselves, absolutely inhuman.”

2. I would like to photograph Nature ( specifically “woods” and other places with out of control horticulture) in whythenshawe. The reason I will be taking photograph’s of these places is because nature is always being “protected” where as making it so that nature looks as if it has no care for who-ever is near it would be a new perspective of how nature is considered to be nice. After looking at Gerhard Richter’s work I will be focusing on using the technique Standard to make standard pictures be split into pieces to make more pictures from that one.

3. I will be doing my photography in Wythenshawe near where I live because it has some forested areas. I will be taking these picture from 27th March – 5th April. No health and safety risks and it is costless.

My perspective of an artists work

When i took these pictures we looked at 2 Artists before we went out the 2 artists we looked at were Alexander Rodchenko and Charles Sheeler.

Here is a picture of Rodchenko’s work :

Here is a piece of Charles Sheeler’s work:

My pictures are taken from walkiing around the college taking pictures of nearly everything i saw. I mainly looked for shapes and lines but i like my Bench picture because its minimum detail is what makes it fascinating and confusing.

Initial Idea’s

For my distinction piece i am going to be working around the artist : Gerhard Richter

14th February 2011 Book covers finishing off

Monday

We standardised our book covers by making the 2 book covers look like they were made by the same designer but looked like 2 different covers. To do this we put the title in the same font and size and we put the authors name on the binding of the book with the barcode on th back of the book and the synopsis and quotations. Putting all them in the same way made our covers look similar but different in thier own way. Also the resolution off our book covers had to be the same.

Tuesday

We worked in our sketchbooks and finished off any unfinished work and work that needed improving such as putting some colour in or sticking somthing in or writing about it and how you could improve it.

Thursday

We carried on with tuesdays work to get our sketchbooks finished on time.
