24/1/11 Book Cover for HighRise

All 3 of these covers have one thing in common which is all the covers have some sort of “structure”
put into it to relate to the high rise building.

All these covers are crap because the first 1 which is the biggest is just completely crap. It makes no sense with what the books about and the little building in the top right corner is just stupidly put randomly into the cover and the writing looks like they were in a rush to do the cover.

The second cover the Hhhhhhhhhh one makes some sense with the leg of the H being the structure of the building crumbling away.

The 3rd cover is just simple but not very explanative to the story because all it is is a picture of a building block with a aerial ontop.

Taking Photographs

We went around the flats near the college to take pictures for books covers. The risks from taking pictures in that type of area is you could get injured or mugged or get the cops called for looking suspicious. Because when taking pictures you are focusing on what your taking a picture off so you dont know whats happening around you.

Heres some pictures i did for the book covers:

17/1/11 Book Cover

Monday

On Monday we had to look at different types of book covers and look at all the elements of each book cover like how the pictures relate to the book and such. After we looked at the books we had to go onto Photoshop and make a book cover with the Dimensions (270mm x 200mm). with a bleed of 1cm and a spine of 1cm. The main elements of each cover were:
Title
Picture
Author
Publisher’s Logo
Barcode
Synopsis
Reviews

When had to get all of them onto the book cover we had to mke on Photoshop here is my final idea/piece:

Tuesday

We worked withglue guns to make a texture in our polystirene prints pictures to make the picture look like it has a texture but it doesnt. We then finished off our other work like our sketchbooks and other things  related.

Thursday

Library……………. not much changed really. Just going on laptops researching

10/1/11 Concrete Island Book Covers

The book is about when a man loses control of his car and swurves of a motorway crossover into a area on land in between each motorway meeting shaped into a triangle. The man doesnt bother to call for help or walk home or to safety he is just so depressed with how his life is he just stays there living on that piece of land scrounging of bits off rubbish drivers throw off the motorway and he is just isolating himself from the world because he is upset with how his life was.

<-    this cover is good but i dont really get alot about the book just looking at it.The only thing i see with this cover is a man is stood in a skip going through the rubbish with a small female figure behind him in the skip.

<-  This cover is good because is shows you a random space with no where to go and isolated from everyone else this tells me that the book is about someone who gets isolated from the real world.
<- This book cover tells the reader that the book is based around a motorway crossover but i dont think this will tell alot about the book just showing a motorway crossover.

10/1/11 Concrete Island- book cover

Monday-  On monday we went around stockport taking specific pictures of buildings and concrete to try and link the book’s story to a picture for the cover. The point of this was to make the reader look at the cover and see adandonment and encloser and lonelyness.

Tuesday- We were painting with our polystyrene blocks to get different textures on pieces of paper with our blocks to make a cool lookingh picture that looked as if it had texture to it.

Thursday- We were finishing off all our pieces linked to the circus and we also went around the college with paper and graphite getting different types of textures to make the person looking at the image think they can feel the texture.
